Talking About High Quality Content

Your message will shape how people perceive you. Remarkable content invites people to share your ideas. Your website’s popularity will increase when its content is shared again and again.” – Jacob Barr

High quality content. Everyone in the website industry is talking about it, but what does it actually mean? More importantly, how does it affect website owners? You wouldn’t expect a cooking show to tell you how to change the oil in your car. Likewise, when you go to a website, you expect to find the information you searched for. Having high quality content means that the information provided on your website is desirable and relevant to your audience.

Why is it important to have high quality content?

It really comes down to something the industry refers to as SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and it can have a major impact on the visibility of your website. Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engines have algorithms for finding the best content for searched terms. Those algorithms search for criteria that determine where a website falls on a list. A few question you could ask to see where your website might land are:

  • Is my content high quality?
  • Are the words I use optimal search terms?
  • Is my content desirable?
  • Is my content up-to-date?
  • Is information easy to find on my website?
  • Is my website easy to use?

The algorithms for search engines use these standards among others to rank websites. Those with the highest rankings are typically the first to be listed in a web search. For more information, click here to watch my short video on SEO and high quality content.
